Livie is a champ. The girl will be moving to the floor today and she lost a chest tube!
I'm getting better and better at understanding what is said during rounds. There are still lots of words I do not understand, but hey, I get the gist. So, during rounds this morning everyone had a look at her xray and Olivia has a pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs) on her right side. Luckily, her surgeon kinda wound her chest tubes around so that they not only drained the fluid around her heart but were also in the pleural space around the lungs. So, she will keep one chest tube and between that and the diuretics she should be able to kick this effusion in the butt. I'm not sure how long she'll have this last chest tube as I'm sure that depends on how well this effusion is taken care of. Either way, it'll be nice to see how much better she feels with it gone too. After losing one she actually ate some slushy. Before, she would only drink juice/milk and munch on ice. We did get her to eat one bite of doughnut and lick a cheerio. But mostly she's not eating yet so her eating some slushy was very exciting for us.
Olivia also had a low-grade fever, but it subsided quickly. Of course, that worries me but the nurse didn't seem concerned so I'm trying to remain calm.
Livie is tired but her pain is controlled well and she isn't so nervous about being here. Daddy is definitely her favorite right now but she did ask me to hold her today which was as wonderful as when she said mommy her first night. I did my best to give her a squeezy hug while she way laying down for a few seconds until she was done with me. It was fantastic.
