Before
And After!!!!
Wahoo! My baby is put back together! Olivia's chest has been closed and she did great. The nurse said her chest looked great and she's been doing mostly well. She's got a lot of goop in her mouth, nose, and lungs so they have to keep suctioning her from time to time when her sats start dropping. But, once they clear her out those sats pop right back up. Olivia is definitely keeping the nurses busy with everything. Yesterday they had to spend the day fidgeting with her blood pressure medications. If her blood pressure went down, so did her sats so they'd give her some stuff to raise her pressure. Then she'd fall asleep and relax and they'd go down again. Then about 3/4 of the way through the day shift she decided she wasn't going to play that game anymore and her sats were great for the rest of the day. Today, she's playing the booger game I guess. But hey, I'm not complaining. If she's going to keep the nurses busy I'd rather it be for those reasons than something scary.
And speaking of scary...Andrew may end up in some trouble for beating up someone from Comcast. Last night we actually went to bed early. I was so proud of me. Around 12:30 Andrew's phone starts ringing and of course we're freaking out because we think it's the nurse calling to say something's wrong. We're fumbling about trying to find the phone and what not and miss the call. They left a voicemail so Andrew listens and there's nothing. So I'm waiting for my phone to ring and nothing's happening. I'm feeling sick to my stomach and freaking out then Andrew shows me the number and it's an 800 number. He calls it back and it's some STUPID automated call from Comcast. It was just some dumb survey! We don't have nor have ever had Comcast even! And then they called AGAIN at 1:00 am. How ridiculous is that? We're thinking of suing for emotional damage.
In other Olivia news, they're starting feeds tonight through her NJ tube, which goes through the nose and down into her intestine. It's that little yellow tube you can see in the after picture. And that was not a fun experience seeing them put that in. I really really really would love it if she no longer had any feeding tube when we were released. Of course, I'm trying to be realistic and am planning on the NG tube at least, which goes into the stomach rather than intestine.
I'm really hoping that we'll be heading home soonish. Andrew and Ella went home tonight so I'm all alone. Not loving that but he really needed to get home and so did Ella. He's been so stressed and tired that he's been feeling a cold coming on. So I told him to just get Elly and himself home. He'll be back this weekend and I'm thinking it will be really good for him to see her now and then see her on Saturday way improved. If we're lucky (I really don't know a realistic timeline) she'll be extubated by then even. We'll see I guess.

Hang in there now that you are flying solo! Take the time you have in the CICU to ask any and all questions you can think of to the NP's and the fellows... they seem to have the most time to chat and they are WONDERFUL at answering questions and helping to pass the time. There is no realistic time frame for getting extubated, but hopefully it will be within the next 5 days! Just take your time and realize that her healing might be a little slower than you want, but taking it slow at the beginning will most certainly help her in the long run. I hope you and Andrew both hold up ok being apart. I always fell to pieces when Kyle wasn't with me... hopefully you do better than I did!! hugs!

I hope and pray for her speedy recovery. Hang in there.
I also wanted to let you know, I work for Comcast. I'd like to help in making sure that the calls are stopped - sorry about that. Please feel free to contact me if you're interested in my help.

I'm sorry (for you) that Andrew is gone, but I'm glad (for him) that he gets a chance to let some of the stress roll off and be home for a bit. It will be good for Ella too I'm sure to be home with her Daddy and have a little bit of normalcy.
Sorry about the Comcast calls. Thats super annoying. I'd be fuming.
