I firmly believe that atmosphere affects us all. If you walk into a room filled with tension and negative feelings you can't help but get grumpy. If you walk into a room filled with fun and happy people you can't help but feel the same way too. At least most of the time.
And I firmly believe that Olivia is the same. Yesterday we had a nurse that I didn't particularly like. While she was taking care of my baby she didn't seem to actually care for my baby. All the other nurses we've had have genuinely cared for her. They seemed concerned when she was unhappy, they'd talk to her, call her princess and sweetheart etc. This nurse yesterday just seemed to be going about her job and that was it. And Olivia didn't like it. This nurse was also pretty negative which really bothered me. Most of the nurses have been really positive and encouraging about everything. Well, nurse negative was not. When other hospital employees who've worked with Livie before would stop by to inquire about being extubated and such she'd quickly, and rather snottily, say "Oh, not for a while." It wasn't even like she was trying to prepare me for the worst. It just seemed like she expected Livie to fail. Livie was just kind of grumpy all day.
Then we hit shift change and got nurse Bryan back. And my girl was happy! Nurse Bryan made sure to let me help give Livie a sponge bath, lotion her, clean her infected incision (yeah, pretty sure nurse negative and her downerness caused that one too...) and change her bedding. Of course she hated the sponge bath but when all was said and done, we put her superwoman leggings on and got her toasty warm and she settled right down once she got her lullabyes. And she was great all night. This morning I came in to find out she's pooped a tooted a ton and her belly girth has gone down. The rash on her leg is also almost gone. And she's so much happier and relaxed than she was yesterday. She did throw up this morning but they're pretty sure it's because of her being constipated and what not.

Atmosphere
And just for fun, here is her at her most tubey
And her last night, not tubey. Just bandaidy.
And wearing her ginormous but very cute superwoman leggings.
And she'll lose her final chest tube today.

She is too cute. We had a nurse like that, and after the 2nd time of having her and feeling that way, I called the charge nurse, and asked that we NEVER get her back. They can do that. She was negative and non-supportive, and I never had a feeling like that with any other nurse. Her name may or may not have been Julie, if I can remember right. :)
I have been gone from reading for a few days and wow! Miss Olivia is cruising!!!
I agree with you on the "feel" of a room, and I am sorry you had to deal with that, you shouldn't have too, you are already dealing with so much. I love her little leggings, they are so cute!!
