First Grader No More

May was completely chaotic, and crazy, and I'm so glad it's over! With end of the year stuff going on, Ella had testing and all that lovely end of year stuff. Rather than do end of year parents teacher conferences her grades and stuff just got sent home. She got straight 4's again, only missed 2 problems on the comprehensive math test (both of which were due to her rushing) and earned her late night with the principle by doing all her reading throughout the year (a carnival type thing.) So, Ella ended the year with a bang. And also a little vomit. She came home from field day with a mild stomach bug. Poor girl. She was so upset about missing field day, but her tummy felt yucky. Luckily, she only puked the one time. Too bad it was at school. Now, Ella is already missing school.
Yes, missing school. But also, enjoying summer. Last week, Ella and Liv got to spend the week at grandma and grandpa's while I was in San Fran with Abby. They swam, and played, and had a great time. Now that I'm home, the whip has been cracked and Ella is back to working hard. I'm a mean mom and have homework, plus reading, plus a brand new chore chart. But, Ella, being my hard worker, is taking it in stride. She loves her homework book and has yet to whine about the new chores. Maybe she's realizing that mommy isn't her slave...Or maybe she's just realized if she buckles down and actually does it, her play time isn't really affected anyway. Who knows? Who cares?
Now, Ella has an amazing imagination. This we know. But lately, some of the stuff she comes up with is hilarious! For example, her and Liv had been playing outside one day and Ella comes storming in and says, "My trip was the worst! I had a baby AND bought an umbrella!" I laughed at both the randomness of it, and the truth of how unfun labor would be on vacation. And of course, Ella, being the sensitive girl she is got a bit weepy over my laughing. I had to explain that I wasn't laughing because she was being weird or silly, but because it was true. The things you don't realize you're going to have to teach your kids. Oi! My girls are mini me's and are so sensitive! I eventually grew out of that (to a point) but not until adulthood. I'm hoping I can help them cope better and sooner.
Anyways! Some other tidbits that made me giggle without tears being involved. We were looking at some old pictures and I said something about how handsome Andrew was. Ella's response was, "Yeah! He's much younger so he's much handsomer!" Andrew didn't love that. But I sure did! And lastly, when discussing her visiting the grandparents, Ella mentioned she'd have fun with grandma. But, "Meh. Grandpa's not really fun." And again, I laughed. And here's one that didn't make me giggle, but made me incredibly proud. Ella had a friend over and they were heading downstairs to play. This friend slipped and ended up sliding on her belly down some stairs. Luckily, the friend thought it was hilarious and was laughing, but Ella immediately started worrying over her friend, saying "Are you ok?" and trying to help her. Even after her friend said she was fine and thought it was funny Ella double checked with a "Are you really ok?" Now, maybe this isn't really a big deal, but ya always wonder how your kiddos act when you're not around. True, I was this time, but Ella didn't know I could hear them and that's what makes the difference. My girl is sweet and attentive even when I'm not there to make sure she is. And that is why I am a proud mama.
And now, because my Ella is such a beauty, enjoy the few pics she allows me to take. Little stinker.

See? Sweetest girl! snuggling on Liv when I'm busy with Bebe.

Such an attentive big sis.

Yeah...she's been so difficult lately with pictures. It's so frustrating.
