Ella has been 6 for only a month, but she seems so much older already. This girl is really flourishing in school. She loves doing her homework and reading. She brings home tests from school regularly and nine times out of ten, she has gotten 100% on her reading, math, etc. We had a parent teacher conference this last month and her teacher had mostly good things to say about Ella. The only issue was twice Ella has gotten frustrated in class and shut down. Considering how often she shuts down when she's frustrated at home (this is why I can't homeschool) I'd say she's doing just fine. Other than that, Ella is well behaved, listens, raises her hand, and participates well in class. I am a very proud mama. School is Ella's big thing right now. She says her favorite part is recess, but she clearly is enjoying the rest enough to do well.
One of my favorite parts of watching my kids grow, is seeing their personalities develop even more. And Ella has a beautiful personality. Lately, she has taken up story telling. Her most recent was a story about searching for Christmas presents. We finally went outside and started digging in the sandbox to find them. We found presents, but also a big giant fritty guarding them! Which apparently is a very large kitty. Still, we went into the hole we had dug and ended up in Egypt. She hasn't exactly learned about structure of a story, but I have high hopes that someday I will write a novel with my girl.
Besides stories, Ella is imagining inventions. Recently she decided she was going to invent autopilot rollerblades so she could read, but still get her exercise. I am very excited to see what else she comes up with.
With Ella starting to read, it's been interesting seeing her figure out words. For example, she is realizing that she's been saying certain words incorrectly like "jrum" instead of "drum." Very minor mistakes that we didn't even know she was making until she was getting frustrated trying to spell them. But, my favorite mispronunciation was inspired by Home. Capt. Smeck roles around on bubble wrap and says, "So soothing." So I caught Ella going around saying, "So smoothing!" when she was feeling relaxed or what not. I died of laughter, then corrected her (which I regret.) But, the damage was done and both girls still say it and I absolutely love it!
Ella is an amazing girl. Everyday she gives me another reason to be proud of her, but then keeps me humble by being an emotional girl still. Ugh! I love her.
